NHL Lockout Revisited

Late on this (of course), but better late than never. Remember when I said that I wasn’t missing hockey that much due to the lockout? Turns out that was a vicious lie, because hockey and I are reunited, and it feels so good. As of this writing, the Islanders are holding on to a 2-1 lead against the hated Washington Capitals (DIAF Dale Hunter) and I’m engrossed.

My beloved Islanders sit precariously on the playoff bubble, and while I don’t think they’ll make the playoffs, they have a puncher’s chance. I didn’t realize how much I had missed hockey until I got it back. It helped to have the sideshow that is the New York Jets for some of the lockout to distract me, not to mention the 2012 election. Now that hockey’s back though, I don’t know how I could have though I’d be OK without it.

The story of Steven Schucker, a Chicago Blackhawks fan who is still sticking to his guns and boycotting hockey made me realize that I should have addressed this earlier. The fact that I and most other fans couldn’t stay away means that we’ll likely be going through this again when the current CBA expires. Despite everything the NHL puts me through, I know I’ll be back for more.
